GUJRANWALA, Nov 18: The district administration has fixed prices of various commodities and warned hoarders and shopkeepers they will be taken to task if they violate the order.
This was decided at a meeting held here on Sunday with district coordinating officer Iftikhar Ahmad in the chair.
The meeting decided that atta would be sold at Rs9 per kg, sugar Rs20, onion Rs5, potato Rs15, pulses — chana Rs32, moong Rs34, mash Rs45 — basin Rs32 and eggs Rs28 per dozen.
District officers and other senior administration officers attended the meeting.
It was also decided in the meeting that Ramazan bazaars would be set up in various parts of the city to provide atta and other commodities to people at subsidized rates.
ARRESTED: The district police on Sunday claimed to have arrested 23 proclaimed offenders and several gangs of dacoits and recovered looted goods and arms from their possession.
A senior police officer told newsmen raiding teams on tips-off had conducted raids at different outhouses in and around the city and arrested POs and other criminals. The teams also seized looted goods and arms from their possession.
It is learnt that a dozen POs were wanted by police in several cases of dacoity, robbery, murder and other heinous crimes.
PEACE: National Council of Churches of Pakistan vice-president Rev Sharif Alam has urged the world community to take steps for peace and stop war in Afghanistan.
Speaking to Christian community at a church in Ghakkhar on Sunday, he said the war would not resolve the Afghan issue. He said the Christians in Pakistan had supported the government stand on eliminating terrorism.
“Bombing and killing of innocent people even during the holy month of Ramazan in Afghanistan are extremely unwise acts and should be stopped immediately”, he demanded.
DISTRIBUTED: The SSP on Sunday distributed eight motorcycles among traffic policemen to improve traffic system in the city.
Speaking at a ceremony, SSP Muhammad Aslam Tarin urged the traffic police to perform their duties honestly with a spirit to serve the people.
He said mobile police had been provided with new motorcycles to look up the traffic system around by-pass intersections and other parts of the city.
