KOHAT, Nov 18: The police have booked the Kohat district council opposition leader under 13 MPO and sent him to jail for instigating blockade of the Kohat-Hangu road to protest against the kidnapping of a schoolteacher and disturbing peace.

Ustarzai Union Council Nazim Syed Mahtabul Hassan, the chief of the councillors’ alliance in the district council, on the expiry of the deadline given for the recovery of a kidnapped schoolteacher, Shafique Hussain, blocked the road during which the protesters clashed with the police.

The clashes resulted in a bullet injury to a constable. However, the police officials later claimed that the constable had been injured accidentally, when his rifle went off after falling on the ground.

The Nazim was shifted to the Kohat central prison.

His lawyers would move the court on Monday where verdict was awaited on his bail application.
