By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Nov 17: Eight persons, including a policeman, were killed while one was injured critically when the wagon they were travelling in crashed into a truck on Islamabad highway on Saturday.

The passenger wagon (NWFP-1074) was going to Gujranwala from Islamabad. When it reached Park Chowk on Islamabad highway, it smashed into a truck (RPT-2711) while overtaking another vehicle, police said.

People from the surrounding areas rushed to the scene of accident to rescue passengers trapped in the wagon’s wreckage before police did so.

Seven passengers died instantly. Two of the injured, Abdul Rauf and Mohammad Saleem were shifted to the Rawalpindi General Hospital where the former also breathed his last, raising the death toll to eight.
