RAWALPINDI, Nov 17: The additional sessions judge on Saturday awarded death sentence to an accused involved in a murder case, registered with the Westridge police in October 1999.

In a separate case, the judge indicted a non-Muslim accused of possessing drugs.

According to details of the murder case, convict Zahoor had shot dead Farooq on October 1, 1999 due to an old enmity while the latter was going to attend a marriage party alongwith his mother and sister.

The case was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Sakhi Muhammad Kahut, who awarded death sentence to Zahoor.

In the second case, the same judge sentenced Baght Singh to two years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs30,000 after he confessed his crime of being in possession of one kilogram of heroin.

The accused was arrested by the customs authorities from the airport last year.

RELEASED: Civil Judge Timmer Hayat Gondal on Saturday released Nazim of union council 4, Manzoor Akbar Turk and seven other people on bail after securing a surety bond of Rs200,000.

Manzoor Turk, a leader of Jamaat-i-Islami’s youth wing, was picked up by Pir Wadahi police on the charges of inciting people against the government, violation of section 144 and participating in November 9 strike.

They were produced before the civil judge who granted bail to them after hearing arguments.

HEARING ADJOURNED: Hearing of a fraud case against the Public Relations Officer of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Aamir Ali, was adjourned as Civil Judge Daud Sahi, who is hearing the case, was on leave Saturday.

Accused Aamir Ali alongwith his step father, Liaquat Ali, had fraudulently deprived an expatriate of his property worth millions of rupees.

A fraud case was registered against him by the Sadiqabad police.

Meanwhile, plaintiff Haji Muhammad Akram has written an application   to DSP legal, urging him to register cases under Sections 419/406/109/467/34   against both the accused. He has also urged the DSP to take action against the revenue department staff, if any employee of the said department was involved in the case.

INDICTED: Special judge Anti-Corruption, Muhammad Aslam Khan, on Saturday sentenced to two years imprisonment an excice inspector and a clerk of Rawalpindi on the charges of taking bribe from Islam Badshah.

Excice inpector Rawalpindi, Mukhtar, and clerk Nadeem had allegedly took Rs5,000 as bribe from Islam Badshah two years ago and a case was registered against him.

The judge on Saturday sentenced both the accused to two years imprisonment and fined them Rs15,000 each after their crime was proved in the court.  

WARRANTS ISSUED: A civil court on Saturday issued non-bailable   arrest warrants of sub-inspector Naseer Ahmed of Banni police station   on the charges of failing to comply with the court summons in a murder case.

SI Naseer Ahmed was avoiding court orders since long.

The court has directed the SHO of the concerned police station to present the accused before the court after arresting him.
