MINGORA: TNSM to protest if leader arrested

By Our Correspondent

MINGORA, Nov 17: The activists of the Tehrik Nifaz-i-Shariat Muhammadi (TNSM), Malakand division, will protest if their leader Maulana Sufi Mohammed is arrested by the government.

A spokesman for the TNSM in Dir said on telephone that the government itself wanted to create a law and order situation in the Malakand division. He said by arresting the TNSM chief, Maulana Sufi Muhammad, the government would commit a mistake, saying that it was time to strengthen unity and not to create hatred, he added.

FRICTION:A conflict between the local people with the Afghan supporters of Northern Alliance is feared in the Malakand division.

The students here in various madaris are said to be associated with Northern Alliance, who have aired their opposition to Taliban on many occasions.

Most of these students are Persian speaking and many of them have also been appointed as Pesh Imams in the mosques. In some parts of Dir district many of them had been expelled from the villages.
