KARACHI: Saso official jailed for three years

KARACHI, Nov 17: The Accountability Court No 2 sentenced on Saturday an absconding official of the Sindh Agricultural Supplies Organization to a three-year term for avoiding court proceedings.

Syed Saleh Muhammed Shah, former Saso assistant director in Larkana, was booked along with other accused, including former Sindh minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, in a corruption case by the Anti-corruption Establishment.

However, he remained untraceable despite repeated notices by the court.

The case pertained to the award of contracts of agricultural supplies against heavy kickbacks and corruption of about Rs100 million in 1992.

The judge also ordered the confiscation of the entire movable and immovable property of the absconding accused.

Besides, Murad Ali Shah, former MD Saso, Amanullah Pathan, director operation, Bashir Ahmed Shah, deputy director (fertilizer), Ghulam Haider Arian, and contractor, Rehmat Ullah, were arrested by an army monitoring team after the registration of the case.
