By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, Nov 16: Shah Shamyl Alam scored three goals to take the Lahore Chatkhara side to a win over Deutsche Bank by nine goals to seven-and-a-half (9-7 1/2) in the Ghulam Mohammad Memorial Polo Tournament at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Friday.

In another match of the tournament, Maula Bakhsh alone put in three goals, including the decider during the fifth chukker to carry Sherwood to a narrow 4-3 win over Vogue. At conclusion of the fourth chukker, both the teams were tied at 3-3.

Deutsche Bank enjoyed one-and-a-half goals advantage on the handicap and could score six goals during play with Javed Mawaz Khan alone striking thrice. But the opposing Lahore Chatkhara side, led by Shamyl who also put in three goals, managed to beat the bankers.

Honours were shared in the first chukker as Feroze Gulzar scored the first goal for Deutsche Bank on spot penalty near the goalpost. For the bankers, Javed Mawaz Khan scored first of his three goals on a 60 yards penalty-hit. For the winning Lahore Chatkhara side, Shamyl scored the first of his three goals on a 60 yards penalty-hit while Aurangzeb Monnoo put in first of his two goals on a field effort.

At start of the second chukker, Taimur Malik scored first of his two goals on a spot penalty near the goalpost, while Shamyl crowned a field effort to score his second and Lahore Chatkhara’s fourth goal. Sufi Muhammad Amir scored his only field goal for bankers before the chukker ended.

During the third chukker, Lahore chatkhara scored three and the bankers two goals. Bilal Haye scored both his field goals, crowning field efforts. Shamyl put in his third goal on a 40 yards penalty-hit. For the bankers, Javed Mawaz Khan scored his second goal on 30 yards penalty-hit while Amjad scored his only field goal.

In the fourth chukker, both the teams struck twice. Taimur Malik scored his second and Lahore Chatkhara’s ninth goal on a field effort while Javed Mawaz Khan scored his third and bankers’ sixth goal on a 40 yards penalty-hit.

Maula Bakhsh continued his good form by scoring Sherwood side’s decisive goal on a field effort during the extended fifth chukker when the goals were widened to decide the match. Maula Bakhsh had earlier, struck once in the first and second chukkers. Shehzad Aziz had scored the only goal of the third chukker for Sherwood, crowning a field effort.

Captain Azhar Ali scored two back-to-back goals for Vogue during the second chukker and on both occasions converted 40 yards penalty-hits. Hashim scored the only goal of the fourth chukker on a field which brought Vogue side on even keel (3-3). That necessitated the match to be taken to the fifth chukker.
