LAHORE, Nov 16: Amateur Shahid Javed Khan (Lahore Gymkhana) stunned the professionals by winning the main trophy of the All Pakistan Garrison Open golf tournament which concluded at the Lahore Garrison course on Friday.

Shahid who remained the amateur leader on last two day, managed to keep consistency to finish with four-under-68 for an aggregate of 11-under- 205 (68+69+68) to annex the main trophy.

However, the first cash prize of Rs 35,000 went to Mohammad Munir (Islamabad) who was the leader of the professional event with aggregate of eight under-208 (70+68+70).

It was the second occasion that Shahid stole the limelight. Earlier, in 1999, Shahid shocked professionals to lift the Power Cup at the Railways course here when he beat Mohammad Siddique and Imdad Husain in play-off.

Shahid who earned a fine card of 68 on each day, did the first nine hole on final day at three under-33 and back nine at one-under-35. He had birdies at the 3rd, 6th, 9th and the 14th.

Mohammad Munir finished the first nine at par-36 but he improved his game in back nine as reached home two under-34. His performance was marred by three bogeys at the 1st, 2nd and the 14th. However, he repaired the damage to some extent with birdie at the 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th and the 13th.

One stroke behind, the defending champion Matloob Ahmad (Gymkhana) with aggregate of seven-under-209 finished as the runnersup. Matloob completed the day 33+38 with birdies at the 3rd, 8th,9th and the 15th and three consecutive bogey at the 10th, 11th and the 12th.

Three storkes behind, Abbas Ali (Gymkhana) got the third position. His three-day score was 69+75+69. Abbas could earn better position had he not finished a poor 75 on the second day. Abbas completed the first nine hole journey impressively three under-33 and back at par-36. He got birdie at the 2nd, 5th, 7th and the 17th while lost a stroke at the 11th.

Imdad Husain with one-under-215 (66+75+74) ended up in fourth position.

In the amateur gross, Shahid won while Dr Zahid a Khan (Garrison) took the runners up position with aggregate of 224 (75+75+74). On final day he did the first and back nine hole at one over-37.

Sameer Iftikhar (Gymkhana) took the third position with overall total of 228 (76+79+73).

In the net event, the 10-handicapper Lt. Col. Asrar-ul-Huda (Garrison) with net score of five-under-211 (74+66+71) won the trophy.

Lt. Col Asif Mehdi (three handicapper) with aggregate of one- under-215 (71+69+75) took the second position.

One stroke away, the 16 handicapper, Major Mazhar Butt (Rawalpindi) finished third. His three-day break up was 72+76+68 (216).

Ali Khanzada was the winner in the junior boys category with net score of 82.

In girls junior section, Neha Ashraf was the winner.
