NAWABSHAH, Nov 16: The people of Nawabshah town are facing numerous health hazards due to thick smoke being emitted from several cotton factories operating within the town’s premises.
A survey conducted by this correspondent revealed that there has been an increase in the number of patients suffering from various kinds of diseases due to pollution which is spread as a result of the factories.
Doctors at the People’s Medical College Hospital Nawabshah said that there had been an increase in the number of patients complaining about asthma, TB, ulcer, conjunctivitis, bronchitis, and skin diseases, and added that people of Old Nawabshah were the worst sufferers.
A lot of patients lamented that they had done all in their power to get rid of these factories which were putting their lives at risk.
At least four cotton factories were operating within the town’s limits.
The residents of Sanghar road, Sakrand road, 68-mile road, and Old Nawabshah have demanded of the district administration to have the cotton factories relocated as soon as possible.
SIX ARRESTED: The Qazi Ahmed police on an information raided Long Khoso village, Qazi Ahmed Taluka, and arrested six gamblers — Nabi Bux, Sher, Sawan, Rafiq, Sabir Khan and Nabi Murad — on Friday.
There were nine more gamblers who managed to escape.
A car (S-9374) was seized, and Rs1,300 and watches were recovered from their possession.
An FIR has been lodged at the Qazi Ahmed police station.
