HYDERABAD, Nov 15: The Sindh High Court Hyderabad circuit bench here on Thursday issued notices to the Zila Nazim of Hyderabad, the SSP of Hyderabad, the SHO of Hala police station and a private respondent on a constitutional petition, alleging harassment at the hands of respondents.

The court has issued notices to respondents for Nov 19.

Mohammad Sangrasi and his wife, Ghulam Fatima, have jointly filed the petition against the respondents.

Sangrasi claimed that the parents of his wife had agreed to the marriage proposal of their daughter, Ghulam Fatima, with him but following pressure by their caste fellows they rescind their decision and refused to give hand of Fatima to him and added that Fatima’s parents tried to force her to marry an old man of the same tribe. She refused and left the house on Nov 7, adding that she had come to his house.

On Nov 8, she filed an affidavit before the judicial magistrate of Matiari, claiming that she was not abducted by the petitioner and wanted to marry him.

The same day their Nikah was solemnized before the judicial magistrate.

The petitioner submitted that Haji Ahmed Memon, father of Ghulam Fatima, approached the Zila Nazim of Hyderabad who directed the SSP of Hyderabad to ensure the recovery of Fatima.

He claimed that under the SSP directives, the SHO of Hala police station came to his residence and asked him to let the girl go to her parents otherwise he would be sent to jail.

The petitioner said that all the respondents were pressure and harassing him and his family.

He said that he was being subjected to mental torture.

The petitioner stated that all acts of respondents were illegal and were in violation of section 54, 59, 60 and 167 CrPC.

He said that the police officials’ acts were also in violation of Article 4, 9, 10(2) of the Constitution.

He prayed to the court to restrain the respondents from causing harassment to him and his family and sought legal protection from the court.

SHOPKEEPERS HELD: The Cantonment police here on Thursday arrested more than 10 shopkeepers of the SRTC Shopping Complex after they resorted to lawlessness.

The police claimed that fork lift of the traffic police had removed some vehicles from the no parking zone near the SRTC Shopping Complex.

Afterwards the shopkeepers damaged the signboard of the no parking zone and tried to burn tyres in protest.

The police went there and arrested 10 of them.

The SHO of Cantonment police station claimed that a case was being registered against them on behalf of the state.
