KARACHI: Carjackers jailed for five years

KARACHI, Nov 15: The district and sessions judge, South, Agha Rafique Ahmed Khan, convicted on Thursday two car hijackers and sentenced them to five years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs20,000 each.

Accused Taj Mohammed alias Taji and Abdur Rasheed were prosecuted for hijacking a taxi-cab from complainant Gul Saeed in Defence Housing Authority on Jan 22 last year.

The convicts will have to undergo an additional three months’ RI if they fail to pay the fine.

The special anti-narcotics court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, sentenced a drug pusher to four years’ RI with a fine of Rs10,000.

Accused Zarwali was arrested on June 26 last year by the Nazimabad police with 1.5kg charas. The convict would have to undergo an additional three months’ RI if he defaulted on the payment of fine.

The same court sentenced accused Akhtar to 15 months’ RI with a fine of Rs5,000 for possessing 150 gram charas. He would have to undergo an additional three months’ RI if he defaulted on the payment of fine.

A district and sessions judge, Ms Nasim Mansoor, sentenced a man to four years’ RI with a fine of Rs15,000 for stabbing and injuring three people in a church in Pak Colony.

Accused Salamat stabbed and injured Iqbal, Boota and Salamat.

An additional district and sessions judge, South, Farooq Ali Channa, sentenced a man to 10 years’ RI with a fine of Rs10,000 for possessing one kg heroin. Accused Ameer Bakhsh was arrested on Dec 6 last year by the Chakiwara police.
