KARACHI: Importance of quality education highlighted
KARACHI, Nov 15: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has called for convincing parents to take more interest in children’s education as majority of people hardly spare enough time to visit the academic institutions despite their concerns about better schooling for their children.
“Majority of parents need to be convinced to change their attitude and at least ensure their presence in the parents- teachers’ meetings to discuss the behaviour, conduct and academic achievements of their children,” he said, while addressing the 17th parents’ day of Pakistan Steel Cadet College here, on Thursday.
Lauding the standard of education and extracurricular activities at the college, the governor observed that quality education and knowledge were a need of the developing societies. In fact, harmonious development of the mind, body and soul is the real education, he added.
Emphasizing the need for following the teachings of Islam for the development of soul, he asked the cadets to develop qualities of peace, tolerance and national integrity.
Advising the parents, present on the occasion, for showing more interest in the education of their children he maintained that getting education and knowledge is a three-way process and if carried out in right earnest, it could certainly produce amazing, astonishing and fruitful results.
Sharing his thoughts with the passing out cadets, he observed that practical life is different and immensely difficult from academic experiences. He asked them to update knowledge through modern technologies and be quick to avail opportunities available to them.
“Apart from getting scientific knowledge, you must take a little interest in subjects of arts and social sciences, which will certainly help you in building your character,” he advised.
Mr Soomro praised the quality drill, gymnastic display and other extracurricular activities and lauded the efforts of its faculty for the betterment of educational as well as physical fitness standard of cadets. He also assured that all the requirements, earlier mentioned by the College Principal, would receive his priority consideration, despite resource constraints.
Earlier, delivering welcome address, principal of the college, Prof Syed Abdul Khalique, presented an overview of educational, extracurricular activities, and said that the faculty members were striving to maintain the standard of the college.
“The primary task of this institution is to produce future guards for the country, besides imparting quality education to the cadets and building their moral characters,” he said and expressed satisfaction that a lot of students passed out from the college are currently serving Pakistan Army, Navy, Air Force and other civil institutions.
He informed that the college had maintained its legacy of educational achievements in secondary and higher secondary examinations and every year they got 100 per cent results whereas every year more than one top positions in board examinations were bagged by their cadets.
The principal urged the Governor for his assistance in establishing a language laboratory, horse-riding club and constructing a swimming pool for the cadets.
Later, the Governor distributed trophies and champion’s shields among the cadets, who performed marvelously in the fields of academics, sports and extracurricular activities, during the year 2001.
He also inspected the Guard of Honour, March Past, performed by the passing out cadets and visited various hobby clubs, established by the PSCC cadets.—PPI
