ISLAMABAD, Nov 14: Pakistan and Iran have agreed to enhance cooperation to fight against terrorism, smuggling, sectarianism, extremism and narcotics.

Both the countries also agreed to exchange and share each other’s experiences in internal security, policing and control of crimes of various nature. According to a press release, this agreement was reached at a meeting of interior ministers of both the countries here on Wednesday.

Iran’s Interior Minister Mr Mousavi Lari is on a three-day visit to Pakistan at the head of a ten-member delegation, which arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday.

Both the interior ministers, during their first meeting along with their aides, agreed on assigning the role of implementation committee to an already constituted experts committee to speed up and oversee the pace of execution on the existing treaties between the two countries.

Interior Minister Lt-Gen Moinuddin Haider said he had apprised his Iranian counterpart of achievements of his ministry in fighting terrorism, de-weaponising the society, eliminating narcotics, curbing sectarianism, creation of authentic database of the population, strengthening border security and reforming police. Both the ministers agreed on sharing and benefiting from each other’s experiences in the relevant fields.
