Imdad takes one stroke lead
LAHORE, Nov 14: Playing a flawless golf, Imdad Husain (Lahore Gymkhana) carded a fine six under-par-66 to emerge leader on the first day of the All Pakistan Garrison golf tournament Pro event which teed off at Garrison course Wednesday.
Imdad had six birdies and did not lose any stroke was in terrific form completed the first nine hole at four-under-32.
However, he could register only two birdies on the back nine to finish it at two-under-34. He registered birdies on 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 14th and last on 17th.
Defending champion, Matloob Ahmad, was also in good touch as he was only a stroke behind the leader (five under-par 67). Matloob completed his inward journey at four-under-32 with an eagle at the 6th. Matloob finished the outward journey at one-under-35. Besides an eagle, Matloob had birdies at the 2nd, 7th, and the 16th.
Abbas Ali and Mohammad Iqbal, both from Lahore Gymkhana were locked at the third position after finishing the day with three under- 69 each.
Abbas did the first nine at two-under-34 and back one- under-35. He had birdies at the 4th, 7th, 9th, 12th and the 15th, but lost strokes at the 6th and 11th .
Iqbal (33+36) had four birdies at the 1st, 4th, 6th and the 18th. His only lapse was when he lost a stroke at the 12th.
Similarly, two contenders are also occupying the fourth position at two under-70 each. They are Mahmood Munir (PTCL) and Mohammad Sajid (PTV).
Mahmood completed the outer and the inner distance equally at one under-35 with birdies at the 2nd, 12th, 15th and a stroke lost on the 11th.
Sajid was satisfied after completing the first nine at two under-34 with birdies at th 5th and the 7th. However, he did earn one birdie on back nine at the 15th but faltered on the next hole to lose a stroke to complete it at par-36.
Four players are tied at the fifth position with identical score of one-under-71. They are Tariq (36+35), Mohammad Sultan (38+33), Yahya Habib (34+37) and Manzoor Ahmad (36+35).
At par-72 again four Sajjad Khan, Mohammad Rafiq, Shahid Haleem and Mohammed Irfan..
Seasoned campaigner Ghulam Nabi and Mohammad Siddique, however, had a poor day. Both were in seventh place with one-over-73 alongwith five others Mohammad Tahir, Mohammad Arif, Mohammad Arshad, Hafeez Masih and Fida Husain.
In the amateur gross section, young Shahid Javed of Lahore Gymkhana was the first day leader after handing over a card of four under-68 (33+35). Shahid, one handicapper player, is also leading the amateur net event at five-under-67. Shahid’s card was also the third best of the day.
In the amateur net, Shahid Javed was the leader while the 14 handicapper Azar Azam was at the second position with two-under- 70.
Gul Mohammad of Lahore Gymkhana won the one-day Senior Pro event with a score of five-over-77. Ali Mohammad (79) and Akbar Ali (80) also of the Lahore Gymkhana earned the second and third position.
