British MPs move motion on Kashmir situation

LONDON, Nov 14: Two British MPs have moved an Early Day Motion (EDM) in the House of Commons on the current situation in occupied Kashmir and expressed showed their concern over the human rights violations there.

MP Roger Godseff and MPs Lyne Jones have moved EDM which said: “There has been resurgence in violence and assassination in Indian occupied Kashmir.”

The motion said they would support any initiative taken by Pakistan and India to resolve one of the world’s long-running disputes.

It “regrets the continued reports of human rights violations and extra-judicial killings” in held Kashmir.

The EDM has commended the governments of the United Kingdom and the US “for the continuing efforts to develop constructive dialogue and believes that Her Majesty’s government should continue to support vigorously the right of Kashmiri people to self-determination.”

If the motion is signed by the required number of members of the House of Commons, the government would have to allow a debate on the Kashmir situation. —APP
