PESHAWAR: Govt held responsible for Afghan situation

PESHAWAR, Nov 14: Jamaat-i-Islami provincial amir, Prof Mohammad Ibrahim, has held President Pervez Musharraf responsible for recent developments in Afghanistan and claimed that the present government policies have put Pakistan’s security at stake.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony here at Madresah Taleemul Quran on Wednesday, he condemned the arrest of JI chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad and the JUI central leader Maulana Fazl Rehman and termed their detention illegal.

He said the government was serving the interests of imperialist powers while Pakistan had been isolated in the region.

Expressing concern over the situation in Afghanistan he alleged that US was promoting civil war in Afghanistan and terrorism in the region.

He said Northern Alliance forces could not consolidate their position in Kabul.

He said that the internal situation of Afghanistan had endangered the security of the entire region.

He called upon the Afghan nation to become united and fail the motives of the enemy.

IQBAL FUNCTION: Pakistan Academy of Letters, Peshawar, has arranged a special function in memory of Allama Iqbal on Thursday at 3pm at its regional office, Block 12, Attached Depts Complex, Khyber Road, Peshawar.

Renowned scholar and former Dean Faculty of Oriental Languages Dr Muhammad Azam Azam will preside over the function while Urdu poet and critic Prof Taha Khan will be the chief guest.

The speakers and delegates will highlight various aspects of the life, poetry and achievements of the poet of the East on this occasion.
