LHC admits Salim’s appeal

KARACHI, Nov 13: The Lahore High Court has admitted former Pakistan captain Salim Malik’s appeal for a revision of a life ban placed on his playing for the country, court sources said Tuesday.

Malik’s case was presented before the court Tuesday and Justice Karamat Nazir Bhandari admitted the case.

“Since the life ban imposed on Malik was by an inquiry commission which did not have the jurisdiction to punish anyone, the revision file has been admitted,” Malik’s lawyer told SADA.

Malik and former pacer Ataur Rehman were banned from all international cricket on the basis of an inquiry conducted by Lahore High Court judge Malik Mohammad Qayyum last year.

“The revision file has more scope than an appeal and I hope that the life ban will be lifted as we are ready to fight this case,” Akhtar said.

Akhtar last week accused the Pakistan Cricket Board of creating hurdles for his client in the way of his filing the revision.

“We needed some documents pertaining to Qayyum’s inquiry to file the revision but the PCB did not give us the related material. However, I am happy that the court has admitted the case,” he said.

“The life ban against Malik was arbitrary and harsh and he was not given any chance to appeal,” he said.

Salim Malik hoped that justice would be done and that his life ban would be overturned.

“I am happy that my appeal has been admitted to the Lahore High Court and hope that justice will be done to me,” Malik said. “I am confident that my name would be cleared.”—SADA News
