BADIN, Nov 13: Around 50 farmers observed token hunger strike in front of the Golarchi press club on Monday, against an oil exploration company for non-payment of the compensation for their crops damaged during a survey.

The representatives of the growers namely Naz Notkani, Rafiq Memon, and Qasim Manganhar accused the Geco Progla oil survey company’s representatives of depriving them of the compensation for their damaged lands and crops for last eight months.

They said that the company’s employees during conducting survey had damaged their crops and lands and had promised that fair compensation would be paid soon to the affected farmers.

However, they lamented, the company had been putting them on false hopes for the last eight months and they were not paid compensation.

DEVELOPMENT: Rs500 million are being spent over districts’ development works and the Badin district government has drawn up an ambitious programme of construction of network of roads, primary school buildings and provision of drinking water to the remote areas of the district.

This was stated by the district Nazim Kamal Khan Chang at public outreach programme held in Shaheed Fazil Rahu town, 25 kilometres from here, on Monday evening.

He asked the Nazims of the taluka and union councils to fix their priorities for completion of the development schemes to provide basic facilities to the people.

A number of complaints were made against Wapda, irrigation, police, hospital and revenue departments in the public outreach programme.
