Jihad Council rejects APHC’s ceasefire call

By Our Staff Correspondent

MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 13: The Mutahidda Jihad Council (MJC) on Tuesday termed “untimely, unnecessary and unwise,” the ceasefire call by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

“The MJC feels that at a time when the freedom movement is making successful advances on all fronts, the ceasefire appeal by some Hurriyat leaders is an untimely, unnecessary and unwise step, and a deliberate or unintentional attempt to impair the ongoing armed struggle,” observed the MJC at its “emergent meeting” presided over by its chairman, Syed Salahuddin, here.

According to a statement, the meeting discussed the freedom struggle in held Kashmir in view of the global scenario and with particular reference to APHC leaders’ ceasefire call given on Monday. It expressed satisfaction over the successful actions of the Mujahideen and the devotion of the people of Kashmir towards the movement.

APHC chief Abdul Ghani Bhatt had called on Monday for ceasefire by all groups, including the Indian security forces and the Mujahideen, in Kashmir.

The Mujahideen groups rejected the call, saying that things like ceasefire had been tested in the past and had proved detrimental for the movement.

“If the Hurriyat leaders have exhausted, they should quit and lead the life of a recluse and avoid impairing the freedom struggle with unnecessary statements.

We have a humble and sincere submission that they should refrain from giving such meaningless and irresponsible statements.”

The parties of the MJC reiterated their resolve to carry on the movement on all fronts, particularly on the militant front, with full force and vigour, till achieving the right to self-determination.

The MJC has 18 members three of whom, Lashkar-i-Taiba, Jaish-i-Muhammad and Al-Badar Mujahideen, have observer’s status.
