SHIKARPUR, Nov 12: The district council, Shikarpur, debated its revised budget on Monday, which was unanimously passed by the house on Saturday.

The session was chaired by the district Naib Nazim, Zafar Ali Shaikh.

While debating the budget, the house suggested to earmark Rs100,000 for scholarships to poor students and sports activities out of the surplus amount of Rs106,063 shown in the approved budget.

The house also approved salaries and non-salaried provisions of various departments functioning under the supervision of the district government, Shikarpur, for the period from Aug 14, 2001 to June 30, 2002.

Meanwhile, through resolutions the house demanded the Sindh government to release Rs9.894 million of the district council outstanding with the Sindh government since the last six years on account of local cess and fisheries.

The house also recommended the proposals regarding restoration of power to the district council for grant of contracts of fish ponds, and fixation of monthly salaries grade-wise for the Nazims and Naib Nazims at the district, taluka, and union council level.
