JEREZ (Spain), Nov 11: Padraig Harrington finally tasted victory in 2001 after seven runner-up finishes when he won the season-ending Volvo Masters by a shot at Montecastillo Golf Club on Sunday.
The Irishman holed a birdie putt from 25 feet at the last for a six-under-par 66, ending a hotly-contested third and final round of a weather-affected tournament on 12-under-par 204.
Harrington’s Irish World Cup team mate Paul McGinley, the overnight leader, finished second after returning a 70, while Australian Adam Scott was a further shot back in third.
Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke, the 1998 Volvo Masters champion, spoiled his chances of victory when he bogeyed the par-five 16th after finding water with his second-shot approach. Clarke finished with a 69.
