Four more members to be inducted in CBR

ISLAMABAD, Nov 11: The government has decided to induct four more members in the Central Board of Revenue as part of the restructuring plan of the tax-administration.

The vice-president of the World Bank for South Asian Region, Mieko Nishimizu, will receive a briefing here on Monday on the progress in the implementation of tax reforms and the induction of fresh members, a senior CBR official told Dawn.

The new members to be appointed include, member human resource development, member MIS, member audit, and member fiscal research & statistics.

At present, there are six members working in the board — member customs, member central excise duty, member direct taxes, member sales tax, member legal, member policy & tax reform.

When contacted, CBR’s official spokesman and member direct taxes, Vakil Ahmed Khan, said that the vice-president will be informed about the modalities of the restructuring plan, its implementation, and the total cost of the project.

Besides others, secretary-general finance, Moin Afzal, secretary establishment, secretary finance, Yunus Khan, and chairman CBR, Riaz Ahmed Malik, will attend the briefing.

Ms Nishimizu will also visit the CBR the same day, he said

The spokesman said that the final presentation will be given to President Musharraf on Nov 17. The formation of a supervisory council, to be headed by federal finance minister to monitor the activities of the board, will be finalized by the end of March, 2002.
