FAISALABAD, Nov 11: The Farmers Association Faisalabad has urged the governor to direct the authorities concerned for evolving a comprehensive policy to give an end to the atrocities of “commission agents” involved in fleecing growers.

FAF president Tahir Saeed told newsmen here on Sunday that the farming community was expecting that the military regime would solve their problems.

He said in case the government failed to take steps for strengthening the agrarian economy, the menace of unemployment and economic crisis would reach on the point of no-return.

He demanded the government to provide fertilizers and improved seeds at subsidized rates so that the maximum area could be brought under wheat cultivation.

PROTEST DAY: Leaders of religious parties and trade bodies and members of the Pak-Afghan Defence Council have announced that they will observe Nov 16 as a ‘protest day’ to express their anguish over the arrest of their activists and leaders.

It was announced by office-bearers of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, All-Pakistan Anjuman Tajiran and Jamiat Ahle Hadith while speaking at a rally at the Clock Tower Intersection on Saturday night.

Speakers criticized the government for detaining JUI amir Maulana Fazlur Rehman, SSP chief Azam Tariq, JI amir Qazi Husain Ahmad and other activists of various religious parties. They also condemned the action of law-enforcement agencies against protesters in Dera Ghazi Khan.

They claimed that a majority of Pakistanis were with the Afghan people and against military rulers which could be judged from the successful strike of Nov 9.

They demanded that all the arrested leaders and activists of religious parties should be released and cases registered against them be withdrawn otherwise a country-wide protest movement would be launched.
