Double triumph for Colours

LAHORE, Nov 10: Punjab Colours and Whites both won their opening matches against Sindh Whites and Colours on first day of the All Pakistan Fatima Jinnah Memorial women hockey tournament at the National Hockey Stadium, Saturday.

Punjab and Sindh fielded two teams each after the NWFP, Balochistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir did not send their teams, disrupting the competition.

Punjab Colours defeated Sindh Whites by two goals to nil after a goalless first half.

Centre-forward Neelma and outside-left Sonia Khan shared the scoring honours.

After the interval, Punjab Colours gained supremacy and scored two goals. Neelma scored the first goal in the 45th minute on a field attempt. Ten minutes later, Sonia Khan doubled the lead to make the tally.

Punjab Whites thrashed Sindh Colours 4-0 after taking 2-0 lead at the interval.

The winning side forward line of Asifa Iqbal, Azra Nasir, Ayesha Arif, Razia Malik and Beenish Hayat kept the attacking game which penetrated the rival’s defence.

Beenish put Punjab Whites ahead by scoring an early goal in the 7th minute on an field attempt. Azra scored her first goal to double the lead by converting the second penalty-corner in the 24th minute. The 2-0 lead remained intact till the half time.

After the resumption, Salma struck in the 44th minute while Azra struck her second goal in the 60th minute to make the tally.

Results:

Punjab Colours beat Sindh Whites 2-0.

Punjab Whites beat Sindh Colours 4-0.
