ISLAMABAD: Nov 10: Vaqas Ahmed emerged the clear favourite to win the Federal Amateur Golf Championship after taking a commanding six- stroke lead on day two of the three-day event at the Islamabad Club on Saturday.

A birdie blitz on back nine saw Vaqas carding a score of five under 139 over two days, six strokes ahead of Tariq Mahmood. Vaqas who found just one birdie on the front nine carded four on return, on hole Nos 14, 15, 16 and 18.

Poor putting by overnight leader Tariq spoiled his card and he is now lying at second at one over par 145. Two strokes behind is Gahzanfar Mahmood with three over 147.

Mehvish Javed with a gross 82 leads the ladies competition and enjoys a one-stroke advantage over defending champion Tahira Nazir (83). Mehvish also heads the net event with 72.

In seniors event Col Safi led the gross event with 70. AW Afridi was at 73 while Brig Ghafoor at 83.
