KARACHI: Two phone cabinets burnt

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 10: At least 580 telephones will remain out of order in the Marston Road area till Monday as unidentified people burnt down two cabinets on Friday night, said a spokesman for the Pakistan Telecommunication Company here on Saturday.

He added that the cabinet number 58 in Dhobighat, Usmanabad, and the cabinet number 62 in Khatri Mohalla, Usmanabad, had been set ablaze by the unidentified people, affecting 450 and 130 telephone connections respectively.

He said the general manager of the Southern Telecommunication Region-II, Abdul Sattar, and the divisional engineer of the Marston Road exchange, Noor Ahmed Baloch, had deputed the PTCL staff to set up new cabinets overnight.

It has been observed that a large number of cabinet boxes of the PTCL remain in a neglected condition all over the city, and drug addicts have been found tinkering with it.
