LAHORE: Contempt notice

Published November 11, 2001

LAHORE, Nov 10: Civil judge Mahboob Ahmad Khan on Saturday issued a notice to the Pakistan Mobilink Communi-cations president for Nov 22 on a contempt application for violation of a restraint order.

The court also issued notices to the company’s executive directors for marketing and customer services.

The contempt application was filed by Javed Iqbal Sheikh against charging customers for the Short Messages Service.

The petitioner said he had obtained a cell phone service from Mobilink. At the time of agreement he was not informed he would be required to pay SMS charges. He said the company later changed its policy without intimation and started recovering the charges. The court had issued a stay order in the case.

On being issued another bill demanding SMS charges, he prayed for initiation of contempt proceedings.

Judgment reserved: An accountability court reserved its judgment on Saturday in a reference against former provincial education minister Riaz Fatyana till Nov 14.

Earlier, the defence counsel completed his arguments. Mr Fatyana is accused of obtaining a plot from chief minister’s quota by furnishing a false affidavit. — APP
