BRISBANE, Nov 9: Rain forced the early abandonment of play on the second day of the first cricket Test between Australia and New Zealand Friday.
Australia were 435 for seven in their first innings when play was called off after starting the day at 294-6.
Adam Gilchrist was unbeaten on 88 with Brett Lee not out 60. Shane Warne was dismissed before lunch for 22 after adding four runs to his overnight score.
Gilchrist and Lee shared in a record, unbroken partnership of 133 for the eighth wicket but their progress was halted by the weather.
Almost an hour’s play was lost in the morning session because of the rain with a further 75 minutes lost after lunch.
There was no play after the tea break because of the showers and the umpires eventually abandoned play 30 minutes before the scheduled finish.
Match officials said the remaining three days would start early and finish late to help make up for the lost time.
