80,000 DPs to be shifted from Jalozai

ISLAMABAD, Nov 9: The UNHCR has decided to shift some 80,000 Afghan refugees from Jalozai refugee camp in NWFP to Bajour Agency in the tribal areas from next week.

Speaking at a news conference, UNHCR spokesperson, Yousaf Hassan said that shifting of refugees would take place in batches of 500 persons daily under the escort of UNHCR, Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees and the local law enforcement authorities. All the refugees in the Jalozai camp would be shifted to the Kotai site, UNHCR official said.

In another development, Mr Hassan said, permission has been granted to shift the refugees from Killi Faizo refugee camp near the Chaman border to some 20 kilometres inside Pakistan at the Roghani site.

The UNHCR official said that 250 persons would be shifted daily to the new Roghani camp. International NGOs and WFP have agreed to provide necessary humanitarian assistance to the refugees at Roghani, he said.
