GUJRAT, Nov 9: Three assailants shot dead their two rivals and injured five others in a police lock-up at Kunjah early Friday morning.

Police sources said Kunjah police had registered a case against seven persons, including Akhtar, Abdul Lateef, Tahir Farooq, Aslam, Fazal, Arshad and Inayat for killing Javed and Rafique in Chak Pindi on Oct 8.

Later, police arrested all the accused who were to be interrogated.

On Friday morning at about 5.30 am, three assailants stormed into the Kunjah police station and sprayed a volley of bullets on their locked rivals who were reported asleep at that time. Akhtar and Abdul Lateef died instantly while five others — Aslam, Fazal, Tahir Farooq, Arshad and Inayat — sustained bullet wounds. The injured were taken to the local DHQ Hospital where four of them were stated to be in critical condition.

On the directives of the SSP, Kunjah police took into custody moharrar Iftikhar Ahmad, naib-moharrar Ahsan, guard Nazir Ahmad and a servant of the SHO, Sabir.

Gujrat SSP Riaz Ahmad had ordered a probe into the matter and deputed DSP Saddar Riaz Cheema as inquiry officer.

Meanwhile, police claim to have arrested two main culprits — Ansar and Javed.
