Phone call delays PIA flight for Islamabad

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Nov 8: An Islamabad-bound flight of PIA from London was stopped at London Airport after the Airport Traffic Control traced a “threatening call” made by a passenger on board at London Airport, a source said on Wednesday.

The source said a British national whose identity was not known was on board the PK-786 when he made a call from his mobile telephone that he was a Taliban and was going to join Jihad against the US-led forces.

After his call was intercepted by the British authorities, the ATC immediately asked the pilot to stop the flight. Besides taking the young man into custody, all the passengers and crew on board were off-loaded and their baggage search was carried out, one of the passengers told Dawn after arriving at Islamabad airport.

Later, the authorities allowed the flight to proceed to Islamabad after off-loading the caller, which caused a considerable delay in the departure.
