KARACHI, Nov 8: The leaders of Pakistan-Afghanistan Defence Council have given an assurance to the Sindh Government that their call for strike on Friday against the US air-strikes in Afghanistan would be “peaceful”.
They gave this assurance to the Sindh home secretary, Brig Mukhtar Ahmed, at a meeting on Thursday. It was decided that the government would allow the PADC to hold a meeting Karachi.
The PADC leaders, who attended the meeting, included Maulana Abdul Karim Abid, Maulana Asad Thanvi, Mohammad Hussain Mahanti, Hafiz Taqi, Arshad Zahid, Qari Usman, Qari Allahditta, Qari Sher Afzal.
According to an agreement reached between the participants, there would be no procession and the activists of religious parties will not violate the law.
An official said the PADC leaders assured the administration that there would be no violence on Friday and activists would neither hinder traffic, nor force shopkeepers to close down their businesses.
He said under a contingency plan, security had been beefed up in Karachi and police deployed at special pickets. Swift action will be taken against those violating the law, he added.
Maulana Abdul Karim Abid, leader of PADC, said although they have been allowed to hold protest demonstration at one place, but claimed they will stage two protest demonstrations on Friday — one at Fresco Chowk and other one at Korangi.
He assured that the strike would be peaceful and everything would be done in accordance with the agreement. He said that the strike would establish that a majority of Pakistanis are against the government’s Afghan policy.—PPI
