Arrest of trader, religious leaders ordered: Wheeljam

FAISALABAD, Nov 7: The Punjab government has directed heads of the law enforcement agencies to arrest religious and traders’ leaders involved in provoking the people for observing a wheeljam and shutter-down strike on Nov 9.
Sources said here on Wednesday that intelligence agencies had already sent a list of office-bearers of such organizations especially those included in the Pak-Afghan Defence Council declaring them as “miscreants”.
Area SDPOs would conduct raids on houses and offices of “wanted persons” and they would be sent to jail for a month, sources said.
They said the chief secretary had asked DCOs and district Nazims to personally monitor the situation.
Similarly, the local police and administration directed Nazims and councillors of union councils to side with the government in foiling the Nov 9 strike. But sources said a majority of elected representatives had refused to cooperate, saying this was the responsibility of government agencies.
Meanwhile, district police chief Tasadduq Hussain in a meeting directed all district SHOs to make a foolproof security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident on Friday.
Presiding over a meeting, the Traffic SP also asked policemen to make all out efforts for the smooth flow of traffic on Nov 9.
Meanwhile, religious leaders and ulema belonging to different schools of thought have assured the government that the protest will stay peaceful on Nov 9.
This assurance was held out here on Wednesday during a meeting with district Nazim Chaudhry Zahid Nazir in the chair and was participated in by SSP Tasadduq Hussain and district peace committee president Pir Ibrahim.
Prominent ulema who attended the meeting, include Maulana Ashraf Hamdani, Maulana Yousaf Anwar, Syed Jafar Hussain, Allama Tahirul Hasan, Maulana Hanif Bhatti, Maulana Zahid Mehmud Kazmi, Sheikh Taj Mehmud, Allama Sher Muhammad Sialvi, Maulana Tayyab Muaz and Maulana Abdul Hameed.
ADULTERATION: The sale of adulterated petrol is going on unabated in the city and its suburban areas due to negligence of Labour Welfare Department officials.
A number of roadside illegal ‘petrol pumps’ are the added nuisance who are fleecing the transporters and general public by selling adulterated and less quantity oil with impunity.
Even the computerized petrol pumps are not lag behind in this illegal practice, it is observed.
It may be mentioned the local administration and the former FMC had demolished a two dozen petrol pumps in various parts of the city a year ago. Owners of these filling stations who have set up illegal oil shops with the connivance of government officials are mainly involved in malpractices.
ARRESTED: A union council Naib Nazim on Wednesday was arrested for his alleged involvement in a theft case.
Unknown thieves had pillaged the house of Asghar Ali in Rachna Town a couple of months ago. The victim lodged a complaint alleging that Rana Jawed Iqbal, UC 238 Naib Nazim, was involved in the theft.
Saddar police after interrogation, have arrested the accused and sent him to jail.
DEFAULTERS: The Banking Court, Faisalabad, on Wednesday ordered to auction the properties of four defaulters.
Local traders — Abdul Aziz of Muhammadia Colony, Ghulam Hyder, Riaz Ahmad of Peoples Colony and Aslam of Farooqabad — obtained loans from various financial institutions, but failed to repay despite several reminders.
AXED TO DEATH: A man axed to death his wife on Wednesday over a domestic dispute in Bawa Chak.
Muhammad Aslam after quarrelling with his wife Razi Bibi, attacked her with an axe. She sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital where she expired.
