LAHORE, Nov 6: Malik Mohammad Bashir (Wapda) showed great stamina and speed to win the 100 kilometres Road Scratch race in the 51st National Cycling Championship here Tuesday.
Wapda’s cyclists who could not earn any gold medals on the opening day gave excellent performance in the lone event of Tuesday, claiming top four positions.
Bashir clocked two hours 34 minutes 59.14 seconds which also earned him 15 points for Wapda
Haroon Rasheed edged out teammate Zulfiqar Ali for second place after a hard fought battle, with a time of two hours 37 minutes 37 minutes and six seconds. Zulifqar was only 64 micro-seconds (two hours 37 minutes 6.64) behind his teammate. Shoukat Awan of Wapda claimed the fourth position.
Noor Alam (Sindh) and Mohammad Asif (Railways) finished fifth and sixth position.
The cyclists faced problems on account of the fact that the route was not closed for other traffic. The participants took seven rounds from Harbanspura to Jallomore to complete the 100 kilometre distance.
