BHAKKAR, Nov 6: The Agency for Barani Areas Development (ABAD) has earmarked funds for certain uplift schemes in the rain-fed areas of the district.

These schemes will be executed under the supervision of the agricultural engineering department, ABAD director-general Brig Shafqatullah Cheema (retired) informed a meeting held at the office of District Nazim Hameed Akbar Nawani.

The uplift schemes include installation of tubewells and turbines. Four wells would be dug in Mankera tehsil while tubewells would be installed at strategic points throughout the district.

Speaking on the occasion, District Nazim Hameed Akbar Nawani said the government was taking steps for the agricultural uplift of arid areas.

He said that with the availability of irrigation resources, maximum land could be made cultivable, which in turn would strengthen the overall agricultural economy.

The Nazim also explained the problems being faced by the people of barani areas of the district. The ABAD DG assured him that efforts would be made on priority to resolve them.
