Government urged to withdraw support to US

By Our Correspondent

MINGORA, Nov 6: Speakers at a protest meeting here on Tuesday criticized the government decision of backing the US-led coalition in its military operation against the Taliban.

Held under the aegis of the Muttahida Milli Mahaz, the meeting was attended by workers of religious and political parties and Jihadi groups.

The speakers, including Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of Jamiat Ulema Islam, Sirajul Haq of Jamaat Islami, Maulana Hamidullah and Maulana Fazl Haq of Tehrik Nifaz Shariat Muhammadi, Zaheerul Islam Abbasi of Hizbollah and religious scholars Maulana Amanullah, Maulana Abdul Haleem, Qari Ruhullah and Haji Khaliqdad Khan, urged the government to withdraw support to the United States forces and change its Afghan policy.

They said the people would extend full support to the strike call given by the Defence Council of Afghanistan and Pakistan to press its demand to halt air strikes against Afghanistan. If the attacks were not stopped, the US would face more troubles at home and a crushing defeat in Afghanistan like the former Soviet Union, they remarked.

The protesters expressed their grave concern over the killing of children, women and old people, and termed it a barbaric act. “It is a challenge for the Muslims across the world to come forward and give a helping hand to their Muslim brethren in Afghanistan in the hour of trial,” a speaker said.

The speakers criticized the United Nations and said its secretary general had failed to play his due role for the protection of innocent  people of Afghanistan and had become a puppet in the hands of Zionist forces.

The meeting adopted resolutions calling upon the Muslims to boycott US products.

It urged the transporters to extend full cooperation to the wheel-jam strike on Nov 9.
