KARACHI: KPP schemes in Landhi, Korangi to cost Rs46m
KARACHI, Nov 6: Brig Ayaz Pir and Brig Haider Abbas of the Army Coordination Team and District Coordination Officer, Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, on Tuesday, visited various development schemes being executed in Landhi and Korangi towns under the Khushal Pakistan Programme.
Currently, 18 such schemes with an expenditure of Rs46.144 million are underway in these areas relating to construction, improvement and repair of roads.
Out of this amount, Rs20.409 million would be earmarked for Landhi Town, and Rs25.735 for Korangi Town.
In the Korangi area, Rs16.757 million has been allocated for development of roads and Rs8.978 million for improving sewerage conditions.
Prior to embarking on a comprehensive visit to review development works in these towns, army officials and the DCO were briefed in detail at the office of the Korangi Town Nazim about details of these projects with the help of charts and maps.
On the occasion, army officials emphasized the exigency of timely completion of these projects which, they stressed, must be in accordance with prescribed standards.
They later reviewed the ongoing development work at different sites along with the DCO.
They reviewed the construction of a 2km road stretching from Dawood Chowrangi to Gulberg Chowrangi at Mehran Highway in Landhi area. Construction of the road is in the final stages, while carpeting work would soon start. On the occasion, concerned engineers were directed to expedite the work and ensure its completion by Dec 1.
The visiting team also reviewed repairing and improvement work on the 5-km long road, 16,000, which would cost Rs2.1 million and after completion, facilitate some 45,000 area residents.
They took serious cognizance of spilling of sewage water and accumulation of filth on parts of the road.
They underlined the need to properly maintain and ensure repairing of sewerage lines to avoid any damage to the road on the verge of completion.
Mr Paracha also instructed the TMO Korangi to convene a meeting which should be attended by officials of the water board, area councillor and Nazim, besides inhabitants and residents of Kutchi Abadis to redress the sewage problem on a permanent basis.
During the visit to Korangi Road 9000, the visiting team observed that stones were lying on the road while construction work had come to a stop. They ordered the concerned engineers to undertake construction activity without any further delay and ensure completion by Dec 15. The project would incur a cost of Rs2.5 million and after completion, a population of 30,000 would accrue benefit from it.
The DCO, during his visit to Korangi Road 10,000, expressed dismay and resentment over the delay in carpeting. He instructed the deputed engineers to initiate work on the project which would cost Rs2.2 million within two days and complete the project by Nov 25.
He also instructed the TMO to ensure plant saplings on both sides of the road.
Mr Paracha also reviewed construction work of additional three rooms and a library of the Government College for Women No 6, executed under the KPP. The project would cost Rs2.2 million.—PPI
