19 killed in Kashmir
SRINAGAR, Nov 5: Nineteen people were killed in clashes in occupied Kashmir, a police spokesman said on Sunday.
The Indian army, assisted by police, shot dead eight freedom fighters at Tarkhana Dhoke Shahpur, in southern Poonch district, on Sunday night, a police spokesman claimed.
Indian forces have been carrying out operations in Poonch district since Friday and claimed to have killed around 50 Mujahideen to have arrested several others.
Indian forces also claimed killing three Mujahideen in the Doda district.
Two Indian soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter, which erupted as troops moved in to conduct an operation.
Police claimed that four Mujahideen were killed in two separate encounters on Sunday night in villages in Kupwara district straddling the Line of Control.
Three more people, including a pro-Indian guerilla, died elsewhere in held Kashmir, police said.—AFP
