Students asked to concentrate on studies

KOHAT, Nov 5: Maj Gen Saeed Ahmed Khan, GOC, IX Div has called upon the students that the country needed men of vision and farsightedness, to lead the nation into new millennium with honour and dignity.

He said education was the only hope for developing countries to meet the challenges of fast changing world.

Speaking as the chief guest the ceremony of parents day of Garrison Cadet College, Kohat, he said that education is the only ray of hope for developing countries to meet the challenges of fast changing world.

He said students are future leaders of Pakistan, therefore, every one of them should put their body and soul together to get the best possible education in order to steer the motherland towards the path of progress and prosperity.

He appreciated the efforts put in by the administration of the college, which in a short time had created a place of eminence for itself. He said the institutions of repute and prestige take a long time to grow but despite difficult circumstances and shortage of funds the Garrison Cadet College had made a rapid progress which was commendable.

Gen Saeed Ahmed Khan, who is also the chairman of board of governors of the college said a new hostel would soon be constructed for the cadets, besides other necessary development during the current year.

He lauded the performance of cadets who took part in drill, PT Show, Tae Kwo Wando and gymnastic and distributed shields and trophies among the outstanding students.

The principal of the college, Brig Naqvi is his welcome address said it was their endeavour to impart quality education with emphasis on discipline, character-building and whole range of extra curricular activities to transform the cadets into balanced personalities and make them useful members of the society.

He said today the institution had completed eight years. But he said during that time we face acute financial problem because we do not get any sort of grants from the provincial governor or any other quarter.

He informed that minimum possible dues were collected from the students bulk of which were utilised for education, boarding and lodging, administration and welfare of the cadets. But despite the problem the institution had made remarkable gains over the past years.

KKOHAT TUNNEL: The National Highway Authority has not laid off a single person from the rupees seven billion Kohat Tunnel Project under a promise with the 1700 staff members, although work on it had been stopped after Japanese decided to go back in the wake of US air strikes against Afghanistan.

The project director, Pervez Gul, told Dawn on Thursday that as the US raids began on Afghanistan the foreign consultants were asked by their embassy to leave the station of Kohat. The NHA promised the 1,700 employees working on this vital project that they would not be removed from the service and instead encouraged to continue their jobs till the situation normalizes in the region.

He said that it was not the fault of the employees that the work on the project had been stopped therefore the management decided in favour of the workers so that nobody was affected by the “War against Terrorism”.
