Paddy growers’ plea to govt

By Our Correspondent

SIALKOT, Nov 4: Growers have once again lamented delay on the part of the government in announcing support price for paddy.

At a meeting chaired by Sialkot Anjuman Kashtkaraan president Syed Iqbal Shah, hundreds of growers cursed the policy makers for “leaving them at the mercy of free market forces.”

Through a resolution, the meeting urged the government to do the needful at the earliest.

Meanwhile, no step has yet been taken by the Sialkot district government and the agriculture department to check the sale of the banned rice varieties.

The administration had banned the sowing and marketing of Superfine and Basmati 386 under section 144 PPC in 1999.
