ASI dies, cop injured in encounter

SIALKOT, Nov 4: An ASI was shot dead and a constable sustained serious injuries in an encounter with a proclaimed offender in Kutcha Shahabpura here on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, Hajipura police ASI Muhammad Riaz and constable Asmat Billa raided the hideout of PO Suhail in Kutcha Shahabpura locality. On seeing the policemen, the PO opened fire on them, killing the ASI instantly and injuring constable seriously. The accused escaped while firing in the air. The injured constable was admitted to a local hospital in critical condition.

SSP Muhammad Tahir told newsmen PO Suhail was wanted in various cases of dacoity, robbery and police encounter.

He said three police teams under the supervision of City and CIA DSPs were conducting raids on various places for his early arrest.

TJP CHIEF: Tehrik-i-Jafaria Pakistan (TJP) chief Allama Sajid Naqvi has said the prolonged stay of US-led military troops in Afghanistan was paving the way for the third world war.

Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, he said the presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan was detrimental to the peaceful atmosphere in the region.

He opposed the government for usurping the right of religious parties to protest the mass killing of innocent people in Afghanistan.

“If the America is really sincere in curbing the terrorism world-wide, it should also launch a vigorous military operation in Israel for undergoing state terrorism against Palestinians”, he said.

The TJP chief said we were the peace-loving people and would continue to support the Musharraf government for the elimination of terrorism globally.

He invited all religious parties to sit together to find out a peaceful solution of the US-Afghan conflict.

SUNDAY MEMORIAL: Christian community residing in Sialkot and Narowal districts observed ‘Sunday Memorial’ for the victims of Bahawalpur church incident.

Special prayers were offered in all churches in Sialkot city, Cantonment, Daska, Ugoki, Sambrial, Pasrur, Chawinda, Zafarwal, Shakargarh and Narowal for the eternel peace for the departed souls.
