Sukkur to face water shortage

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, Nov 4: Sukkur Barrage authority has said that the River Indus would be mostly flowing on the left side from Thursday due to which there would be shortage of water in the city.

The barrage authority has therefore informed the Sukkur Municipal Corporation to supply water to the city cautiously.

It added that last year too the water level had decreased to 23,000 cusecs and caused shortage of potable water and warned that this year the shortage would be more than the that of last year.

Sindh Irrigation Department has said if rains were not received this year the water level would go down to 20,000 cusecs at the barrage.

At Sukkur Barrage the water level has decreased by 6,000 cusecs during the last 24 hours and in the next 72 hours it would go even down.

Sukkur Municipal Corporation has advised the citizens to store water and use it carefully so that they may not remain without water during the water shortage period.

AREA SANS WATER: Bashirabad, a thickly populated vicinity situated at Military Road here is without drinking water for the last one month.

The area population comprises mostly of working class members who go out of homes to earn bread and butter for the family, leaving behind women and children, who fetch water from far off places, sufficient only for drinking and cooking purposes.

The people of the area have several times appealed the concerned authorities to restore the supply of drinking water. Their delegations also met the authorities in this regard but to no avail.

The residents have appealed to the Sindh governor and the provincial secretary Local Government to direct the concerned authorities to redress their grievance before the advent of holy month of Ramazan.
