KARACHI, Nov 3: The City Council on Saturday elected its three presiding officers and six members for the District Public Safety Commission.
The elected presiding officers with number of votes they polled are: Muslim Pervaiz (81 votes), Ghulam Abbas Baloch (72) and Abdul Aziz (47).
The six members elected to represent the Council on the DPSC with the votes they got are: Saeed Ghani (67 votes), Dr S. Mubeen Akhtar (42), Zahid Saeed (40), Hakim S. Mujahid Barkati (26), Kishwar Zaman Khanum (63) and Nasreen Anjum (55).
In all, 242 members of the council cast their votes.
The city council’s session for electing members for the DPSC and presiding officers of the Council was presided over by the city’s Naib Nazim, Tariq Hassan.
There were in all seven candidates for three posts of the presiding officers and 20 candidates (11 men and nine women) for the DPSC’s six members (four men and two women).
The elections were held under Section 28 (1) of Sindh Councils (Conduct of Business) Rules-1980 as the SLGO-2001 is silent on the procedure for conducting such elections.
