Hike in poultry feed rates opposed

SIALKOT, Nov 2: Local district poultry association president Mirza Inam Baig and secretary-general Bilal Manzoor Chaudhry have condemned increase in feed rates by the millowners.

In a press release issued here on Friday, they said the prices of feed had been enhanced for the fourth time in a year.

In the wake of price hike in raw products, like maize, rice and others, the owners association had increased Rs15 per 50kg bag of all types of feed from Oct 25, 2001.

INDIAN FIRING: The Indian security forces on Friday continued intensified firing in Sialkot working boundary’s Chhumb, Joriyan, Bajwat, Chaprar, Sucheetgarh, Harpal, Bajragarhi, Charwa, Jammu, Zafarwal and Shakargarh sectors, badly disrupting the paddy harvesting.

No casualty was reported.

POISONED: A girl was poisoned to death allegedly by her parents over an issue of ‘love marriage’ in Maraakiwal village, Kotli Loharan, on Friday.

Landlord Ibrahim’s daughter Neelam Firdous reportedly got married to her lover, Zulfiqar Ali, of the same village one and a half month back.

Her parents took the girl with them for a stay of few days. They served her with poisonous meal and the girl died.

Her parents informed her in-laws that she breathed her last suddenly. However, the medical report confirmed that she died of poisoning.

Kotli Loharan police have registered a case against the accused with no arrest.

Meanwhile, villagers protested against the brutal act and demanded a probe against the accused.

RALLY: People from all walks of life on Friday staged protest rallies in various parts of the district to express solidarity with the Afghans.

Starting from the Allama Iqbal Chowk, the protesters marched through various roads and dispersed near the district courts. They chanted slogans against the US atrocities and burnt an effigy of their president.

ARRESTED: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested an accused Muhammad Nawaz alias Goni Butt and his accomplice Muhammad Tariq in a case of attempt on Daska tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmad Cheema’s life.

Sialkot SSP Muhammad Tahir told newsmen that the accused, along with six accomplices, opened fire on tehsil Nazim’s car near MR Link canal bridge on the Sialkot-Daska Road on Oct 8. The Nazim had a narrow escape however, his car was smashed.

Police also recovered three Kalashnikovs and a stolen car from their possession.

Meanwhile, police also arrested Shahzad, Younis and Rafaqat for killing three people during a dacoity incident on Sept 19 in Pasrur city.
