Marriage ordinance being violated

GUJRANWALA, Nov 2: The marriage ordinance, promulgated by the Nawaz Sharif government in 1997, is being violated by all segments of society with impunity.

Marriage ceremonies are in full swing these days throughout the division as the month of Ramazan is drawing nearer.

Lavish illumination at houses and marriage halls, display of fireworks, aerial firing and serving of sumptuous meals in weddings are making a mockery of the marriage ordinance.

Former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif had strictly enforced the ordinance by forming ‘ehtesab committees’ comprising MPAs and government officials to nab the violators. — Correspondent
