KARACHI: Public support sought to tackle terrorism
KARACHI, Nov 2: The Inspector-General of Sindh Police, Syed Kamal Shah, issued on Friday a standing order to police officials on tackling terrorism.
In the standing order, an appeal has also been made to the people to adopt certain preventive measures to counter the dangers caused by terrorist activities.
The people have been advised to specially adopt preventive measures at places such as airports, banks, shopping centres, radio, TV stations, hospitals, Imambargahs, mosques, Madressahs, government buildings, cinema halls, Sui gas installations, Wapda, bus stands/stops, railway stations, post offices and courts. The people have been advised to keep watch on suspicious and abandoned vehicles.
Cinema hall owners have been asked to carry out proper checking before the start of a show, and ensure that no person left shortly after the start of a show or in the middle of it. They have been told not to allow anyone to bring bags or packets inside the cinema halls. Another checking be carried out in the middle of shows.
The people have been urged to maintain close liaison with police, and if they have any information, they should convey it to police without any hesitation.
Market and traders associations should guide their security staff in this regard and maintain contact with police. Traders at the Sabzimandi also have been asked to remain vigilant. In case any abandoned vehicle, motorcycle or bicycle is found, police should immediately be informed on the emergency number, “15,” because such vehicles can be used for subversive activities.
Managements and heads of colleges, schools and educational institutions have been told to remain vigilant and take all possible security measures.
A new anti-terrorism cell has been created which will function under the DIG Karachi. Its members will be the DIG Special Branch, and the SSPs of the five districts and the SP Crime Branch.
The committee will keep reviewing security measures and submit its report about investigation in related cases.
The standing order shall come into force with immediate effect.—APP
