KARACHI: JUI holds anti-US protest demo

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 2: Activists of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, wearing shrouds, staged a protest demonstration outside the Press Club against US aggression on Afghanistan. They held banners, placards, party flags and portraits of Osama bin Laden and raised slogans against the US and the Afghan policy of the government of Pakistan.

Before termination of the demonstration, which went on for over an hour, the participants were addressed by JUI leaders Maulana Mufti Jamil, Maulana Khan Muhammad Rabbani, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid, Qari Osman and others. After the speeches, the participants dispersed peacefully.

They demanded the release of Maulana Fazlur Rehman and other leaders and reiterated their determination that until the US aggression on Afghanistan came to an end and the Pakistan government reviewed its policy of supporting the US-led attacks, the holding of rallies, staging demonstrations and public meetings would continue.

Referring to the statement of Pakistan foreign minister, Abdul Sattar, that no Mujahid would be allowed to cross into Afghanistan from Pakistan, Mufti Jamil rejected the statement and said that in Karachi alone, 0.3 million Mujahideen were ready to go to Afghanistan. They were prepared to sell their household goods to supply arms to the Mujahideen.

He said that the Taliban had made preparations to meet the US challenge of continuation of its aggression against Afghans even during the holy month of Ramazan, and determined to continue the war till the destruction of the US.

Maulana Khan Muhammad Rabbani said over 2 million Muslims had sacrificed their lives for the enforcement of Islam in Afghanistan, and the Taliban and other Muslims would defend it with all resources at their command.

Maulana Abdul Karim Abid said that the JUI had proved its commitment by encircling Jacobabad and the blockade of Sharea Resham, and had also formulated its future line of action. He said that the arrest of party chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, would not affect the on-going protest movement even if the entire JUI leadership was taken into custody.

Qari Muhammad Osman advised the government not to intervene in their efforts to prepare people for Jihad in Afghanistan by imposing restrictions on speeches in mosques. Otherwise, instead of going to Afghanistan for Jihad, the people would take on the rulers first, he warned.

JI: Jamaat-i-Islami has warned that US attacks on Afghanistan are, in fact, a conspiracy to occupy reserves of oil and gas in Central Asia and to destroy the nuclear power of Pakistan.

JI leaders gave this warning while speaking at a rally held at Dak Khan Chowk of Liaquatabad after Friday prayers, to express solidarity with the Afghans and to protest against US aggression. The participants held banners, placards with slogans condemning US attack and criticizing the policy of the government of Pakistan.

The JI deputy chief, Prof Ghafoor Ahmed, cautioned the government that in the name of logistic support, the US would demand handing over Pakistan’s nuclear installations for destruction.

He said that the US was not only spilling the blood of humanity, but also of justice and fair play, while our government had been extending cooperation to the US to fulfil its nefarious designs at the cost of solidarity and sovereignty of Pakistan.

Dr Mairaj-ul-Huda and Muhammad Muslim also spoke on the occasion, and said that the government had been backing the US policy against people’s aspirations.
