KARACHI: Shab-i-Barat observed with fervour

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 2: Shab-i-Barat was observed here with due religious fervour and reverence on Thursday night.

As usual, thousands of faithfuls thronged mosques to offer special prayers (Nua’fil) and seek blessings and forgiveness from Almighty Allah.

On the occasion, most of the city mosques were profusely illuminated. Big gatherings were held after Maghreb and Isha prayers and Ulema reflected on the importance of Shab-i-Barat.

The faithful offered special prayers, recited the Holy Quran, Naats, invoking Allah’s mercy for their sins and His blessings for the worldly future and hereafter, in line with the religious belief that Allah presets or amends the destiny of individuals on this very night.

A large number of people also visited the graves of their near and dear ones to seek His blessings for them.

A number of Mazars also buzzed with devotees who laid wreaths and offered Fateha.

Most of the mosques, including Jama Masjid Arambagh, Jama Masjid Boulton Market, Masjid-i-Khizra, Farooq-i-Azam Mosque, PECHS’ Rehmania Masjid and Liaquatabad’s Masjid-i-Shuhada, saw a large turnout of faithfuls during the night.

Beggars by the thousands were also seen around the city graveyards.

POOR CONDITION: Although most of the graveyards were illuminated, their narrow pathways were in such poor condition that people had to face immense difficulties while trying to reach the graves of relatives and friends.

Most of the visitors to the graveyards criticized the concerned authorities for not properly maintaining them. They pointed out that although wild bushes had sprung up abundantly in many city graveyards, the authorities had done nothing to remove them.
