France urges restraint

NEW DELHI, Nov 1: French foreign minister Hubert Vedrine urged India and Pakistan on Thursday to behave responsibly and not allow their relationship to deteriorate during the US-led strikes on Afghanistan.

“We do not want the current situation to have a negative or detrimental effect on the relationship between India and Pakistan,” Vedrine told a news conference after meeting Indian external affairs minister Jaswant Singh.

“And that means a lot of sangfroid and a sense of responsibility,” said Vedrine, who was due to fly to Islamabad later on Thursday.—Reuters
