WELLINGTON, Nov 1: New Zealand Cricket announced Thursday it has canceled a scheduled tour to India by its world champion women’s team, saying the level of risk was unacceptable.
The New Zealand side was to play one Test and five limited-overs internationals on an Indian tour starting Nov 29.
New Zealand Cricket chief executive Martin Snedden, announcing the tour’s cancellation, said his organization was concerned at the level of security likely to be provided by Indian authorities.
“It was clear to me that there would be little or no security arrangements in place for the New Zealand team, and no ability to remove us quickly from a region or out of the country should there be civil unrest or an escalation of military or terrorist activity,” Snedden said in a statement.—APP/AP
